Desert Springs Golf Club

Course Overview

Located within JW Marriott Desert Springs Resort & Spa, Desert Springs Golf Club has delighted players of all experience levels for over 30 years. Hotel guests, Palm Springs residents and visiting celebrities flock to the club to test their skills at one of two championship golf courses, with stunning desert landscapes and awe-inspiring views.

About the Courses

The Palm and Valley courses at Desert Springs Golf Club were designed by acclaimed architect Ted Robinson Sr., and built in the mid-1980s. Robinson was renowned as the "King of Waterscapes," and these golf courses incorporate 35 acres of sparkling streams, lakes and cascading waterfalls - providing a tropical oasis here in the desert.

Additional elements on the golf courses include greenside and fairway bunkers lined with railroad ties adjoining several of the water hazards - set against the magnificent backdrop of the soaring Santa Rosa Mountains. The layouts also feature undulating fairways, multi-tiered greens and white-sand bunkers.

These award-winning courses offer four sets of tees and are designed to be accessible for both beginning and advanced golfers. They are an unmissable destination for golf enthusiasts visiting Desert Prings.

The Palm & Valley Courses

"The Palm Course, a 6,761-yard, par 72 from the back tees, is named after the signature palm trees that flank the fairways and adorn the greens. The golf course also incorporates mogul-like mounding that comes into play on several holes.

The Valley Course is a par-72 layout that plays 6,627 yards from the back tees; it's punctuated by rolling fairways and several steep hillsides, where shots are played into low-lying areas surrounded by mounding.

Strategically placed sand traps demand accuracy off the tee on both golf courses, while subtly breaking, multi-tiered greens require careful attention over every putt."

Look & Feel

Both of the resort's golf courses here in Palm Springs completed a major renovation in 2010, in keeping with the original philosophy of Ted Robinson Sr.

Ted Robinson Jr., who was tasked with renovating the property, worked within the foundational philosophy his father originally envisioned while updating the courses' ability to test and reward golfers of all skill levels.

Using the surrounding land and significant shifts of elevation, the Palm and Valley golf courses now recall the challenges that were an integral element of the original layouts.

New bunkers were added, while others were reshaped and moved closer to the landing areas in the fairways, placing a premium on accuracy from the tee.

Teeing areas were leveled and resurfaced, and Tif-Eagle turf was used on the greens to provide consistent, top-quality conditions.

While each course offers its own distinct experience, they are by design interchangeable; golfers can play either layout during their stay without feeling one is superior to the other.

With several wildlife habitats throughout both courses, the Palm and Valley golf courses have been certified by the Audubon Cooperative Sanctuary for enhancing local wildlife habitat and protecting natural resources.

Beautifully designed, impeccably maintained and completely unique, the golf courses at JW Marriott Desert Springs Resort & Spa continue to be a major attraction in Palm Springs.
