University of Alabama at Birmingham

 

The largest employer in the state of Alabama, the University of Alabama at Birmingham, is located on 275 acres in downtown Birmingham's Five Points South area. UAB is one of the top public research universities in the world and is highly recognized for the innovative work around the UAB Health System, one of the largest academic medical facilities in the country, which sponsors residency programs in the college's medical education programs.

Samford University

 

One of the most historic colleges in the United States is also Alabama's largest private school, Samford University. This private Christian school boasts a yearly student body average around 5,000 undergraduate and graduate students. Samford plays an active role in the community by hosting events for the community and by sponsoring over 100 school clubs and sports teams for students to join. The school's most popular degree programs are in business and health care.

McWane Science Center

 

Take time during your stay in Birmingham to discover your inner scientist at the McWane Science Center, the very popular hands-on science museum and research library. Located in central Birmingham, the McWane Science Center offers hours of fun learning experiences and activities for all age groups, spread across four floors of displays. Oak Mountain State Park

 

Travelers to Birmingham will not want to miss out on a stop at Alabama's largest state park, Oak Mountain State Park. Aldridge Gardens

 

Settled less than three miles from our hotel and adjacent to a small six-acre lake is Aldridge Gardens, the picturesque greenspace showcasing one of the world's most beautiful collections of hydrangeas. The gardens were developed on the former estate of Eddie Aldridge, the local horticulturist and nurseryman who gifted the city of Hoover with the beautiful property that includes an event venue, a gallery in the former home, a scenic walking trail, fountain features and streams, and garden spaces that often serve as the setting for weddings, meetings, and special events.

Moss Rock Preserve

 

One of Birmingham's most popular natural spectacles is the Moss Rock Preserve, a 350-acre nature preserve that features some of the most unique characteristics of any forest system in the nation. Moss Rock offers more than ten miles of hiking trails where hikers can enjoy scenery such as the rock outcroppings, waterfalls, streams, abundant wildlife, rare plants and a boulder field that is recognized as a favorite by rock climbers.
