Director of Tennis - Jim Leupold

Jim Leupold, from Deming, New Mexico, started with PBI in 1986. Jim has led the Desert Springs program for the past 30 years and has coached and played in 17 countries and is a one-time world record-holder for longest rally at 15,848 consecutive shots.  In college Jim was a big part of a team that ended 1985 ranked #9 in the country in NAIA. As leader of one of the world's top tennis resort programs, Jim has an amazing ability to help students understand and simplify their tennis games. 

Jim's accomplishments include the following:

  • Midwestern State University's first-ever Academic All-American
  • JW Marriott Desert Springs Hospitality Manager of the Year
  • PBI Professional of the Year in 1994 and 2011
  • Leads PBI's Annual Meeting On-Court Programming
  • Has performed more than 700 PBI Tennis Shows

PBI Professional Zack Juhre

Zack is known on court for an incredible motor with un-ending energy and care for the guest.  From Seattle, WA, Zack honed his skills as the #1 player at Spokane Falls Community College where he was twice NWAACC champion.  Zack studied physical therapy and brings that expertise to tennis as well.  All students on Zack's court will gain a much greater understanding of the game and receive a great workout at the same time.   Zack also enjoys pickleball and teaches our pickleball clinics
 

PBI Professional Shea Donahue

Shea's easy-going style is mesmerizing.  It's impossible not to have fun on the tennis court with Shea as you gain a greater understanding of the PBI concepts.  From Haslett, MI, Shea honed her game there and played four years at Saginaw Valley State where she was nationally ranked in Division II doubles.  Shea also coached at SVSU and coached four years at the Nike Tennis Camp at Pepperdine University.  Shea also enjoys playing and teaching pickleball.

Since JW Marriott Desert Springs Resort & Spa opened its doors in 1987, Peter Burwash International (PBI) has managed our tennis program. PBI hires and trains tennis professionals, who in-turn direct astounding programs at a variety of resorts and clubs in 25 countries around the world.

In business since 1975, PBI has earned its reputation of having the best-trained and highest service-oriented tennis professionals in the world. Their concepts work for novice and even world-class competitive players. Visit our world-class tennis facility to learn how simple tennis really is and become your own coach.
 

Our Service Guarantees

 
  • If the PBI professional arrives even one minute late for a guest's lesson, that lesson is free.
  • If the guest is dissatisfied with the instruction, the lesson is free.
  • If the guest beats the PBI professional in a match, the lesson is free.
  • A free half-hour lesson is offered if we are unable to find a match for a guest when given 24-hour notice.
  • Programming (clinics and drills) are never cancelled due to low attendance.
