Our Hotel's Historic Character

Proudly the first NYC hotel to allow both single women and actors to stay as guests, we have a strong connection to the Broadway community and the Theater District. Years past have brought many legendary actors to our hotel, including Lionel, Ethel and John Barrymore. Playwrights, too, have called The Algonquin home; Tennessee Williams stayed here for the opening night of The Glass Menagerie and Lerner and Loewe wrote the musical My Fair Lady in their ninth floor suite. Today, Broadway stars visit our hotel to enjoy its atmosphere, for inspiration and to conduct press interviews.

Our Round Table Restaurant has also welcomed many legendary Broadway actors including The Marx Brothers, Irving Berlin, Tallulah Bankhead, Helen Hayes, Alfred Lunt and Lynn Fontanne.
