Barnes Foundation

The Barnes Foundation's roots stretch back to 1922, when Albert Barnes made it his mission to promote education and the appreciation of fine arts and agriculture. The museum, which opened 90 years later, sits on four-and-a-half acres of landscaped grounds, and has ecological features that include a green roof and permeable surfaces that allow for rain and water re-use. The Barnes Foundation is home to some of the world's most important Impressionist, Post-Impressionist and early Modern paintings; it also features Old Master works and a collection of Native American jewelry, African sculpture and antiquities.
