Discover San Luis Obispo

Our staff looks forward to welcoming you to SLO! With year-round sun, more than 80 miles of coastline and dozens of premier wineries, San Luis Obispo is guaranteed to be one of your favorite destinations.

Wine Country

The wineries of SLO Wine Country claim an average distance of just five miles from the Pacific Ocean, resulting in prevailing marine conditions that are among the most distinct of any wine region in California. SLO Wine Country includes two small adjoining areas - the Edna Valley and Arroyo Grande Valley - as well as other nearby wine growing areas. Each of these regions share a unifying proximity to the ocean, and these growing conditions result in a wine quality that is native to the SLO Coast.

Nearly two dozen wine varietals are grown in SLO Wine Country, reflecting both the distinctions of the geography and the talent of the local winemakers. Burgundian varietals such as Chardonnay and Pinot Noir are particularly recognized for excelling in our region, while Rhône varietals, including Syrah and Viognier, have also come on strong in recent years. The SLO Coast is also distinguished by the quality of its aromatic whites, including Pinot Gris, Riesling and Gewürztraminer. In the warmer mountainous areas, you will also find Zinfandel and classic Bordeaux varietals such as Cabernet Sauvignon and Merlot.
