Executive Chef Jose Vera-Caraballo

Jose Vera-Caraballo was born and raised in Aguadilla, Puerto Rico. His culinary journey started when attending private baking, pastry classes and seminars with Chef Mark French and Spanish Chef Antonio Buendia when he was 12 years old.

While completing his Bachelor's Degree in Food Service Management, and receiving an Associate's Degree in Culinary Arts at Johnson & Wales University, North Miami, he began working with local catering companies in Miami, FL and Villa Montana Resort in Isabela, Puerto Rico during his summer vacations. This led to an even deeper attraction to the culinary field.

In 2005 Jose joined the Ritz Carlton, South Beach to complete an internship program, leading him to accept a position as Cook 3 at Americana Restaurant. Upon graduation from Johnson and Wales in 2007, Jose continued growing within the hotel, promoting to different culinary positions where he could learn the fundamentals of cooking and polish his skills. Eventually he worked his way up to Executive Sous Chef in 2014 where he was responsible for day-to-day operations of five distinguished food and beverage outlets, the banquet department and a 65-member Culinary team at Ritz Carlton Miami. He joined the JW Marriott Atlanta Buckhead as Executive Chef in 2016.
